10 Things you Need to Know about the New World Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion

Here is a last-minute look at some nitty-gritty details about the New World Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion that will help give you a head start at launch. Some of these you may already know about but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to look at the finer details.

The New World Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion launches on October 3rd (October 4th AU/NZ). You can check out the Patch Notes here.

Rise of the Angry Earth Gearing

There is currently a lot of confusion about Gearing. Here is a brief overview of everything we know about Gearing in the expansion so far.

Expertise Removal – How will Gear be Earned in the Expansion?

The Expertise system is being removed from the game. Gear drops will be based on the difficulty of the content for the most part. A Loot Bias system is also being introduced. This means gear drops you get will be based on what you’re wearing (eg. if you’re an equip load light healer with a Void Gauntlet offhand, the majority of the gear drops will Light & Medium Armour pieces, Life Staffs and Void Gauntlets). Note Loot Bias does not apply to Quest Rewards.

Here’s a list of different content and the gear score (GS) it drops.

  • Elysian Wilds MSQ & Side Quest – up to 640-650 GS
  • Story Mode Expeditions – up to 685 GS
  • M1 & M2 Mutations – 685+ ?
  • M3 Mutations – 695 – 700 GS
  • Open World (ECR’s) – highest level enemies: normal enemies 690, named enemies 700
  • Corrupted Portal Caches – up to 700 GS
  • Arena & OPR caches – up to 700 GS (wide range of GS levels)
  • Influence Race caches – up to 700 GS
  • PvP Reward Track – every 10 levels guaranteed 690 GS
  • Invasions – unknown but probably up to 700 GS?
  • Wars – unknown but hopefully not as bad as Arena & OPR crates.
  • Crafting
    • Prismatic Scarab Crafting – expensive, weekly cooldown, guarantees 700 GS & pick all 3 perks
    • Chromatic Seal Crafting – cheaper, daily cooldown, pick 2 perks
Named and Artifact Items

Any named items that drop after the Rise of the Angry Earth launch will be upgradeable to 700 GS with matrixes at the Gypsum Kiln. Most named 590 GS Items earned prior to the launch of RotAE will automatically upgrade to Item Rating 625.

New Artifact Items with a unique, defining perk can be earned from various Level 65 content. You can wear 1 Armour Artifact, 1 Weapon Artifact and 1 Jewellery Artifact. Check out all the Artifact Items and where they come from on New World Database.

You can also reroll the third perk of named items and the last perk on Artifact items using the Gypsum Kiln.

Gypsum Orbs and Umbral Shards

Umbral Shards will be made redundant but will be able to be converted into Gold.

  • 1 Umbral Shard = 0.1 Gold, 10,000 Umbral Shards = 1,000 Gold

Gypsum Orbs can be used to upgrade Heartrunes to 700 GS (x50 per upgrade) in the expansion. Beyond that, they will have little use.

New World finally has Mounts! Here are the key things you need to know about Mounts on day one of the expansion launch.

How to get a Mount?

You get a Mount (Horse) by completing the ‘My Kingdom for a Horse’ Mount Quest in northern Everfall. The quest marker is a Horseshoe symbol. Progressing through the Mount questline will get you all three Mount types (Horse, Wolf and Lion).

Levelling your Mount will increase it’s speed. To Level it, you can do the Mount Questline starting with ‘My Kingdom for a Horse’ and/or craft special Mount Food.

Crafting – Trade Skill Level Increase

The Trade Skill cap is being increased to Level 250 with new materials and numerous new recipes are being added. Here are a couple of things to note for day 1 of the expansion.

  • Aptitude levels will remain intact. Once you get a Trade Skill 250, you will go back to whatever Aptitude Level you were at before RotAE launched. For example, if you have 150 Harvesting Aptitude Level right before RotAE launches, once you get Harvesting to Level 250 (after RotAE launches), you will go back to Aptitude Level 150.
