Here is a last-minute look at some nitty-gritty details about the New World Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion that will help give you a head start at launch. Some of these you may already know about but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to look at the finer details.
The New World Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion launches on October 3rd (October 4th AU/NZ). You can check out the Patch Notes here.
Rise of the Angry Earth Gearing
There is currently a lot of confusion about Gearing. Here is a brief overview of everything we know about Gearing in the expansion so far.
Expertise Removal – How will Gear be Earned in the Expansion?
The Expertise system is being removed from the game. Gear drops will be based on the difficulty of the content for the most part. A Loot Bias system is also being introduced. This means gear drops you get will be based on what you’re wearing (eg. if you’re an equip load light healer with a Void Gauntlet offhand, the majority of the gear drops will Light & Medium Armour pieces, Life Staffs and Void Gauntlets). Note Loot Bias does not apply to Quest Rewards.
Here’s a list of different content and the gear score (GS) it drops.
- Elysian Wilds MSQ & Side Quest – up to 640-650 GS
- Story Mode Expeditions – up to 685 GS
- M1 & M2 Mutations – 685+ ?
- M3 Mutations – 695 – 700 GS
- Open World (ECR’s) – highest level enemies: normal enemies 690, named enemies 700
- Corrupted Portal Caches – up to 700 GS
- Arena & OPR caches – up to 700 GS (wide range of GS levels)
- Influence Race caches – up to 700 GS
- PvP Reward Track – every 10 levels guaranteed 690 GS
- Invasions – unknown but probably up to 700 GS?
- Wars – unknown but hopefully not as bad as Arena & OPR crates.
- Crafting
- Prismatic Scarab Crafting – expensive, weekly cooldown, guarantees 700 GS & pick all 3 perks
- Chromatic Seal Crafting – cheaper, daily cooldown, pick 2 perks
Named and Artifact Items
Any named items that drop after the Rise of the Angry Earth launch will be upgradeable to 700 GS with matrixes at the Gypsum Kiln. Most named 590 GS Items earned prior to the launch of RotAE will automatically upgrade to Item Rating 625.
New Artifact Items with a unique, defining perk can be earned from various Level 65 content. You can wear 1 Armour Artifact, 1 Weapon Artifact and 1 Jewellery Artifact. Check out all the Artifact Items and where they come from on New World Database.
You can also reroll the third perk of named items and the last perk on Artifact items using the Gypsum Kiln.
Gypsum Orbs and Umbral Shards
Umbral Shards will be made redundant but will be able to be converted into Gold.
- 1 Umbral Shard = 0.1 Gold, 10,000 Umbral Shards = 1,000 Gold
Gypsum Orbs can be used to upgrade Heartrunes to 700 GS (x50 per upgrade) in the expansion. Beyond that, they will have little use.
Mounts
New World finally has Mounts! Here are the key things you need to know about Mounts on day one of the expansion launch.
How to get a Mount?
You get a Mount (Horse) by completing the ‘My Kingdom for a Horse’ Mount Quest in northern Everfall. The quest marker is a Horseshoe symbol. Progressing through the Mount questline will get you all three Mount types (Horse, Wolf and Lion).
How to Level Your Mount?
Levelling your Mount will increase it’s speed. To Level it, you can do the Mount Questline starting with ‘My Kingdom for a Horse’ and/or craft special Mount Food.
Mount Food Ingredients to Save
Here is a list of ingredients needed to craft various levels of Mount Vittles.
- Barley
- Water
- Milk
- Honey
- Mint
- Flour
- Butter
- Ginger
- Salt
Crafting – Trade Skill Level Increase
The Trade Skill cap is being increased to Level 250 with new materials and numerous new recipes are being added. Here are a couple of things to note for day 1 of the expansion.
- Aptitude levels will remain intact. Once you get a Trade Skill 250, you will go back to whatever Aptitude Level you were at before RotAE launched. For example, if you have 150 Harvesting Aptitude Level right before RotAE launches, once you get Harvesting to Level 250 (after RotAE launches), you will go back to Aptitude Level 150.
- Crafting Research Items that give crafting Trade Skill XP will be limited to 3 crafts per tier per day.
- Craft Mods for Perks that are being changed or made reductant will be able to be converted into Attribute Mods.
- Faction Tokens are required to purchase components for top-tier crafting namely Chromatic Seals.
- Runestone Stopwatches are no longer going to have a use and can no longer be crafted. Any you have can be salvaged into 10 Runestones.
Crafting – New Tier of Mats & Skinning Changes
There is a new Tier of crafting materials you can gather that are purple in colour. Level 205 in the relevant Gathering Trade Skill is required to gather these new mats.

These materials can be found in First Light/Elysian Wilds, Shattered Mountain, Brimstone Sands, Reekwater, Ebonscale Reach, Edengrove, Mourningdale, Restless Shore and Cutlass Keys.
Skinning Changes
To accommodate the addition of a new Tier of Hide, Dark Hide, the level that Hides drop from specific level beasts has changed. Here is a table outlining the changes.

- There are now only 3 Mutation difficulties (since ward and bane perks have been removed from the game)
- Mutation Difficulty 1 is balanced for 650 Gear Score and should be more accessible (in terms of difficulty).
- Mutation Difficulty 2 is balanced for 675 Gear Score.
- Mutation Difficulty 3 is balanced for 695+ Gear Score and is difficult.
- The new weekly cap for Mutation runs is now 35 (was 25).

Elite Chest Run Changes – Mangled and Malevolence
Mangled is now a Level 50 Elite Area and all the Elite Chests appear to have been removed.
Malevolence has been renamed to Tor Mallacht and is now a Level 65 solo area. Most of the Elite Chests have been removed.

The location of the Expansion starter quest ‘The Invasion of Artemis’ varies depending on your Faction.

- Marauders – Shattered Mountain

New Expedition Location – Savage Divide
The new Savage Divide Expedition is located in the southeast corner of First Light/Elysian Wilds.
